There are many stories about how Valentine's Day originated. One of the most popular legends is that Valentine himself actually sent the first "valentine" greeting while in prison. It is believed that Valentine fell in love with a young girl, his jailor's daughter, who visited him during his confinement. Before his death it is alleged that he wrote her a letter declaring his love, which he signed "From Your Valentine."

It is believed that Valentine's Day is celebrated on February 14th commemorating the anniversary of Valentine's death around 270 A.D.
